The Arado Ar196 was the standard seaplane of the German Kriegsmarine and operated from battleships and cruisers. Over 500 examples were built between 1938 and 1944, proving particularly successful in reconnaissance and submarine hunting. The agile aircraft offered its two-man crew excellent visibility and, thanks to its robust construction, was able to take off and land even in rough seas.
